President Barack Obama visited Portsmouth, NH today to conduct a Town Hall style meeting about the national health care debate. In the course of the meeting, a question was posed to him by Portsmouth High School teacher Linda Boettcher, asking “How does mental health coverage fit into the plan?”
Speaking to a mostly receptive crowd—in the midst of what has been a sometimes contentious debate over the health care issue—the president responded that “…I’ve been a strong believer in mental health parity—recognzing that those are serious illnesses. And I’d like to see a mental health component as part of a package that people are covered under, under our plan.”
